About The Work

Biodynamic Bodywork

Traditional western bodywork is oriented toward treating pain or discomfort by looking for isolated "problems" and applying prescribed techniques. In the Biodynamic approach, the therapist is trained to use deep listening and inner stillness to follow the underlying intelligence and health operating in the patient's body. Nourishing the health and resilience of the patient's being with witness, care and devotion allows it to come forth with more certitude. Held (or pained) areas of the body begin to free and reintegrate into an underlying system of health, profoundly reducing stress and tension in the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual layers of the body. Clients report a fuller expression of ease and of well being in their lives.

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system - comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, or about the weight of a nickel, practitioners release restrictions in the craniosacral system, which has been shown to improve the functioning of the central nervous system, as well as many other systems of the body, such as digestive, musculoskeletal, respiratory, circulatory, and more. CST has also been shown to help with the physical components related to such somatic conditions as Post Traumatic Stress, depression and anxiety.

Myofascial Release Therapy is an effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. This essential “time element” has to do with the viscous flow and the piezoelectric phenomenon: a low load (gentle pressure) applied slowly will allow a viscoelastic medium (fascia) to elongate.

Trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create Myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressures of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch on pain sensitive structures that do not show up in many of the standard tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc.) Myofascial Release Therapy is slow and sustained and and is practiced without lotions or oil to prevent sliding superficially.

Somatic Experiencing The SE approach facilitates the completion of self-protective motor responses and the release of thwarted survival energy bound in the body, thus addressing the root cause of trauma symptoms. This is approached by gently guiding clients to develop increasing tolerance for difficult bodily sensations and suppressed emotions and working to complete defensive responses previously thwarted from bringing resolution to the nervous system and, therefore, to the individual.
